An early job assisting Storm at Hipgnosis. Keith Moon - soft-porn style with lots of warming filters. For the Who’s Bellboy tour programme. Designed by Richard Evans.
Another curio discovered in the archives: Wings at the Speed of Sound Songbook,
I’d forgotten I’d taken this for the ‘Wings At the Speed of Sound’ songbook. A smashed picture frame with crumpled photo of Paul that had been taken by Linda McCartney - at the time the closest I’d come to actually photographing Paul.
Stian Brekke - an irrepressible Hipgnosis fan forwarded this curio:
Stian must be the number one Hipgnosis fan and collector, he forwarded this set of images created by artists associated with Hipgnosis telling the Beatle’s Apple Story. circa 1975
The image of school girls was one of my earliest experience working with Storm, this time as an assistant. Shot in Hammersmith with drama students their dresses were drenched in water apparently having seen the Beatles pass by, referring to the ‘wet seats’ after a Beatle’s concert it’s perhaps not an image that would be made now.
I shot the image of the lover’s in the Tiptree Orchard, Essex, showing the innocence of Apple before greed, rip-offs and predatory businessmen - as depicted by the overlaid black and white pics - came into play
